Family Tree
Terms of Use
These Terms of Use govern your use of the Family Tree app, website and related services. They are intended to explain the rules of the service in clear language while protecting both your family history and the services that help you explore it.
Last updated: September 26, 2026
1. About these Terms
Family Tree is operated by APP STAR FAMILY PTE. LTD. In these Terms, “Family Tree,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the Family Tree app, website and related services operated by APP STAR FAMILY PTE. LTD.
By using Family Tree, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not use the service.
Questions about these Terms can be sent to info@appstarfamily.net.
2. What Family Tree provides
Family Tree provides tools that can help you:
- create and maintain family trees;
- record people, relationships, dates and places;
- preserve photographs, documents, stories and Memories;
- organize family-history information;
- investigate genealogy questions using automated Research;
- review possible historical findings and sources; and
- export and back up family information using supported features.
Family Tree is a tool for organizing, preserving and researching family history. It is not an official historical, legal or identity registry.
3. Your family information
You retain your rights in the family information, photographs, documents, stories and other content that you add to Family Tree. These Terms do not transfer ownership of your family history to us.
You give us only the limited rights necessary to process information when required to provide a feature you choose to use, such as automated Research or another hosted service.
You are responsible for the information you add and for ensuring that you have an appropriate right or permission to use photographs, documents and personal information relating to other people.
4. Living people and family privacy
Family trees may contain personal information about living relatives. Please use care when recording information about living people, particularly children.
You are responsible for deciding what information is appropriate to record and for complying with applicable privacy, confidentiality and other legal obligations when using information about another person.
5. FamilyTreePro
Family Tree offers Premium access through FamilyTreePro subscriptions purchased through Apple's App Store.
The subscription options, introductory offers and prices available to you are displayed in the app and by Apple before purchase. Prices may vary by country, currency, storefront, tax treatment or changes made through the App Store.
Apple processes subscription payments. Family Tree does not receive your full payment-card information from Apple.
6. Renewal and cancellation
FamilyTreePro subscriptions may automatically renew according to the terms shown by Apple when you subscribe, unless you cancel renewal through your Apple account before the applicable renewal date.
Cancelling renewal does not normally end access immediately. Premium access continues while Apple still reports the subscription entitlement as active and ends when that entitlement expires.
Subscription management, billing, renewal and cancellation are handled through Apple's App Store systems.
7. Restore purchases
Family Tree provides purchase-restoration functionality for supported App Store subscriptions.
Restoring purchases does not create a new subscription. It asks the relevant Apple and subscription systems to verify whether you currently have an entitlement that can be restored.
8. Premium access to preserved family data
Under the current Family Tree service, normal access to your family library, Memories and automated Research requires an active FamilyTreePro entitlement.
If your Premium entitlement expires, Family Tree does not intentionally delete your family history merely because your subscription ended. Preserved content may remain stored while normal access is locked.
Restoring or resubscribing to active Premium access can reopen preserved content according to the app's current functionality.
Certain designated functions, such as supported family-data export, privacy controls and subscription recovery, may remain available even while normal Premium access is locked.
9. Automated Research
FamilyTreePro includes automated Research designed to help investigate genealogy questions.
When you deliberately start an investigation, Family Tree may use relevant family context, artificial intelligence technology and publicly available sources to look for information that may help answer your question.
Automated Research may return possible identities, historical facts, relationships, sources, conflicting evidence, clues and suggested next steps.
Research does not automatically rewrite accepted people, facts or relationships in your family tree. You decide what information to accept or use.
10. Research allowance
The current FamilyTreePro service allows a Premium customer to start up to 20 chargeable new automated Research investigations within a rolling 24-hour period.
The rolling period means that Research availability returns as earlier chargeable investigations become more than 24 hours old. It does not simply reset at midnight.
Reopening existing findings, viewing Research history, reconnecting to an existing investigation or retrying an idempotent request is not intended to count as a new investigation.
Family Tree may also apply reasonable service-wide capacity, security and abuse-prevention limits.
Research limits may change in the future as the service evolves, including to maintain reliability, fair access, service quality and sustainable operating costs. Where appropriate, current limits will be communicated in the product.
11. Research availability
Automated Research depends on internet access, hosted infrastructure, third-party services and the availability of public sources.
We do not guarantee that Research will be available continuously or that every question can be successfully investigated.
We may temporarily limit or suspend automated Research where reasonably necessary for maintenance, security, service capacity, provider availability, abuse prevention or technical problems.
12. Research and AI accuracy
Automated Research is intended to assist genealogy research, not replace your judgment.
Artificial intelligence can make mistakes. Historical records may be incomplete, mistranscribed, contradictory, incorrectly indexed or refer to different people who share similar names.
You should review sources and evidence before relying on a Research finding or changing your family tree.
Family Tree does not guarantee that automated Research findings, historical conclusions, suggested relationships or source interpretations are complete or accurate.
13. Public and third-party sources
Research may refer to information available through public websites, archives, indexes and other third-party sources.
Family Tree does not control those third-party sources and is not responsible for their continued availability, accuracy, completeness or separate terms of use.
A source appearing in Research does not mean that Family Tree owns, endorses or guarantees the source.
14. Memories, photographs and documents
Family Tree lets you preserve photographs, documents, stories and other Memories as part of your family history.
You retain your rights in material you add. You must not knowingly add material in a way that infringes another person's copyright, privacy or other legal rights.
15. Backups and exports
Family Tree provides supported ways to export or create a protected backup of family information.
You are responsible for choosing a safe destination for exported files and for protecting copies you create outside the app.
If you protect a Family Tree backup with a password, you are responsible for remembering and safeguarding that password. Family Tree may be unable to recover a backup if its password is lost.
You should maintain appropriate backups of family information that is important to you.
16. Acceptable use
You may not use Family Tree or its hosted services to:
- violate applicable law or another person's legal rights;
- attack, disrupt or interfere with the service or its infrastructure;
- circumvent subscription, Research, security or usage controls;
- automate abusive or excessive requests;
- attempt to obtain unauthorized access to another person's data;
- misuse information about living people; or
- use the service in a way that materially harms Family Tree or other users.
Reasonable good-faith use of Family Tree for personal genealogy and family-history research is, of course, permitted.
17. Security and service protection
Family Tree may use technical measures to verify subscriptions, app integrity, authorization and legitimate service use.
You must not attempt to defeat, bypass or interfere with these protections.
We may restrict access to hosted services where reasonably necessary to investigate or prevent fraud, abuse, security threats or material violations of these Terms.
18. Third-party services
Some Family Tree features depend on services provided by third parties, including Apple, RevenueCat, OpenAI, hosting providers and providers of public information or web sources.
Those services may be governed by their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for changes, interruptions or actions by third-party services that are outside our reasonable control.
19. Changes to Family Tree
Family Tree will continue to evolve. We may add, change, improve, replace or discontinue features where reasonably necessary to operate and develop the service.
This can include changes to automated Research, supported sources, Premium features, service capacity and reasonable usage limits.
We will not use this provision as permission to take ownership of your family content.
20. Suspension or termination
We may suspend or restrict access to hosted Family Tree services if reasonably necessary to protect the service, other users, our infrastructure or third parties, or if you materially violate these Terms.
Where practical and appropriate, restrictions will be proportionate to the issue involved.
Suspension of a hosted service does not transfer ownership of your family content to us.
21. No professional advice
Family Tree provides genealogy and family-history tools. Information produced or displayed by Family Tree is not legal, medical, financial or other professional advice.
Historical Research may occasionally surface information that is sensitive, unexpected or inconsistent with family traditions. You are responsible for deciding how to interpret, use or share that information.
22. Disclaimer of warranties
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Family Tree and its hosted services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.
We work to provide a reliable and useful service, but we do not guarantee that Family Tree will always be uninterrupted, error-free or available, or that every historical record, Research result, source or conclusion will be accurate or complete.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable law.
23. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, APP STAR FAMILY PTE. LTD. will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or similar losses arising from use of Family Tree, including losses caused by reliance on inaccurate historical or automated Research results, third-party source availability, or loss of a user-controlled backup or backup password.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability where doing so would be prohibited by applicable law, including applicable statutory consumer rights.
24. Apple App Store
If you obtain Family Tree through Apple's App Store, your use of the app is also subject to applicable App Store terms and conditions. Apple is responsible for App Store payment processing and subscription management provided through its systems.
These Family Tree Terms govern the Family Tree service and are not intended to remove or replace rights or obligations that apply under Apple's applicable App Store terms.
25. Privacy
Our handling of personal information is described in the Family Tree Privacy Policy.
The Privacy Policy explains, among other things, how local family information differs from information processed when you deliberately use hosted automated Research.
26. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Family Tree evolves, when features or business practices change, or when legal or operational requirements change.
When we update these Terms, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Where appropriate, we may provide additional notice of material changes.
Your continued use of Family Tree after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
27. Severability
If a provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
28. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with the Family Tree Privacy Policy and any applicable terms presented by Apple in connection with your subscription or use of the app, form the terms governing your use of Family Tree, subject to rights that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
